Today we all use the Internet and we all receive random fairy tale e-mails and chat messages with money or love being the end goal. But who are the people that send us e-mails and messages? Why do they do it and does it work? What human story lies behind the widespread phenomenon of Internet fraud? Our film deals with internet scamming often done by young, poor Africans.
In the last decade, web activities have caused a significant societal shift in Ghana. There is still a lot of poverty and unemployment, but a new generation of Ghanaian youngsters are using the Western invention to their own benefit, instead of them becoming a victim of it. For the Sakawa-boys and girls, the internet has become a way of life and an activity that may save them from staying in poverty.
